Dr. Ewart F. Brown, a graduate of Howard University, was sworn in as Deputy Premier of Bermuda on July 30, 2003.

In an historic General Election on July 24, 2003, Dr. Brown was re-elected to the House of Parliament in District 26 – Warwick South Central. In winning a second consecutive term in government, the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party (PLP) grabbed twenty-two of the thirty-six parliamentary seats and Dr. Brown once again proved that he was the man to represent the district which first elected him in 1993. In fact, Dr. Brown trounced his opponent almost two to one.

Three days after the General Election, Dr. Brown was elevated to the position of Deputy Premier of Bermuda and Deputy Party Leader by acclamation at a Special Delegates Conference on Sunday, July 27, 2003.

Dr. Brown was reappointed to the Cabinet by Premier Alex Scott and again is responsible for the Ministry of Transport. During the PLP’s first term in Government, Dr. Brown was responsible for introducing fast ferries to Bermuda. Although a controversial move in the beginning, Bermudians and tourists alike have made commuting by fast ferry extremely popular in the island.

Dr. Brown has vowed that as a Member of Parliament and Deputy Premier, he will continue to be committed to a strong and balanced economy, new airline routes to Bermuda, affordable housing for Bermudians, meeting the needs of the elderly, and engaging youth in productive activity.
